SF-Caravan Mellajärvi

This cosy caravan park is in the eastern part of Ylitornio municipality, along the Aavasaksa-Muurola road and on the shore of Lake Mellajärvi. Operated by the local caravanning association. At Lake Mellajärvi, you’ll feel like you’re cocooned by nature and miles away from hurry, even though Ylitornio, Tornio, Kemi and Rovaniemi are just a short drive away.

The park’s main building houses the office and common recreation rooms as well as a canteen that sells beverages, ice cream, sweets and basic hygiene products. The building also contains a kitchen with dining space, an electric sauna as well as WC and shower facilities. All of the park’s facilities and functions are accessible for people with disabilities. Guests can also use the washing machine, fresh water pump and the chemical WC and greywater disposal point.

Our saunas are right by the water. The lakeside sauna is heated daily in summer with separate times for men and women. The traditional smoke sauna, our pride and joy, is usually fired up on summer Saturdays, although more times may be added if there is a lot of visitors.

The park also has a kota barbecue shelter, a waste disposal point and a gas cylinder exchange point.

The park is open to caravan travellers all year round. A caretaker is in attendance in summer, but the park is self service in winter.

Mellajärvi is the northernmost of all the parks run by Finland’s national caravanning association SF-Caravan ry and this location makes for a superb starting point for any journey into Lapland.
