Matarenki and Övertorneå
Övertorneå is a municipality in Northern Sweden. The town of Matarenki, which is located on the opposite bank from Aavasaksa, serves as its municipal centre. The population of Övertorneå is about 4,500. It is connected to Finland by a bridge and the majority of residents speak either Meänkieli or Finnish. The names of the area’s villages and natural features are also in Finnish or Swedish translations of the original Finnish names.
